50 Minutos Nús l 50 Minutes Naked l Paulo Serra

online exhibition - arteportugal November 30, 2009 to January 27, 2010

Paulo Serra joins the group of arteportugal artists with the exhibition 50 Minutos Nús (50 Minutes Naked). This series represents one area of the artist’s language, dominated by the modeling line of drawing. A set of eight works in which the figurative narrative is intensely constructed and deconstructed.

Between weakness and strength, Paulo Serra moves and expresses himself through drawing, portraying figures from his everyday life and his imagination in an extraordinary fusion of references that he masters with a distinctive capacity.

In this series, colour rediscovers the line, broadening it and redefining it, suggesting the subversion of its limits.

The line as expression, word, in search of its own boundaries. Talking about his work, Paulo Serra writes:

“Drawing as a thinking process. A mental picture brought to here and now. Here on this page. Even the drawing of these words, of this writing. What do they express and explain? What it is, it is”.

50 Minutos Nús, by Paulo Serra follows Jogo Casual, by José Nuno Lamas & Valter Ventura, Matinha, by Ana João Romana & Susana Anágua and mais um que quer ir lá para fora, by Jorge Lopes. Four exhibition projects in online format that are permanently available at www.arteportugal.pt

Paulo Serra (Olhão, 1965) established his career through creative practice. After a brief period at the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon), he attended Mobile Home – Experimental Couse in Contemporary Art, in 2009. Between 2005 and 2006, he resided in Berlin. Currently, he lives and works in Faro, Portugal. His work is represented in private collections in Portugal and Germany.
