Exhibition of the cycle of war themes by Edo Murtic, one of the most significant artistic personalities in Croatian art of the second half of the 20th century will be open on the 23rd February 2010 in the Art Pavilion in Zagreb. The exhibition is, by its unique display of drawings on paper, city lights, video projections and formats, designed as a kind of ambient installation compliance with the uniqueness of Pavilion interier. An integral part of the exhibition makes a series of gouaches from the cycle "The eyes of fear" created in the1990s and templates for graphic map "Jama (The Pit)" (1982). In over two hundred drawings and gouaches Murtic brings human and artistic response to war events, with all the fears, anxieties and emotional devastation that war brings. At this exhibition at the Art Pavilion, Edo Murtic“s works inspired by tragedies of war will be presented for the first time in Zagreb. This exhibition, which was in the 2008 set up in destroyed City Hall in Sarajevo was designed as a dialogue of Murtic“s works and architecture damaged by war. It is considered as the one of the most important cultural events in Sarajevo in the last 10 years. Edo Murtic has exhibited in many of renowned Croatian and world galleries presenting a retrospective overviews and exhibition cycles. His impressive work is highly valorised by audience and critics, remaining a constant value of Croatian and European art. For his works he has received a large number of distinguished international and Croatian art awards.
